Professor Gerard Byrne, BSc(Med) 1978 UNSW, MBBS (Hons) 1980 UNSW, PhD 1997 UQ, FRANZCP. Professor Byrne is Head of the Discipline of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland and Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. He chairs the Research Advisory Committee at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and is a member of the advisory board of the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research at the Queensland Brain Institute. Professor Byrne has active research interests in depression, anxiety and dementia in older people.
Professor Byrne was first appointed to the Authority on 1 July 2009, and his current term of appointment expires on 30 June 2025.
